Entegrity brings DCE and DFS to Red Hat Linux

San Jose, Calif. - April 2, 2002 - Entegrity Solutions® Corporation, a leader in access management and application security software and services, today announced delivery of  DCE and DFS for the Red Hat® Linux operating system.

By adding Linux to the list of supported platforms for DCE and DFS, Entegrity allows current installations to now include this popular Linux platform in their DCE environments. Red Hat Linux is one of the world's most popular open source server operating environments. According to IDC Research, Linux was the second fastest growing server operating system from 1999-2000.

"Today's announcement reinforces our commitment to the DCE community," said Rick Irving, Vice President of Entegrity's DCE Business Unit. "By adding support for this very important platform, we are giving our customers yet another way to take advantage of their existing DCE infrastructures. This is yet another release on updated platforms that illustrates Entegrity's long-term commitment to DCE and DFS. Look for more announcements of this type later this year."

"With DCE for Linux, customers can now use desktop Linux machines to access their corporate DCE and DFS environments and use Linux-based servers to provide DCE and DFS access to web servers, Samba services, and mail services," said John Griffith, Director of DCE Engineering at Entegrity.

Based on proven standards, DCE is the most widely accepted solution for developing and deploying secure distributed computing applications enterprise-wide. DCE provides network security, transparent service location, and cross-platform communication, allowing organizations to more quickly design client-server and peer-to-peer based applications in a heterogeneous environment. DCE is used by the largest companies in the world to implement mission-critical high-performance applications in their enterprise networks.

The DCE Distributed File Service (DFS) is a secure distributed client/server application that presents the user with a global view of a set of files and directories (a file system), independent of machine boundaries.

Entegrity is not new to the DCE world. As Gradient Technologies, the company was one of the pioneers in the DCE software arena and was the first to ship a DCE product for PCs. Gradient began shipping DCE products in 1991. In addition to DCE and DFS for Red Hat Linux, Entegrity offers a family of products that includes PC-DCE™ for Windows 98/2000/NT (including Terminal Server), Sys-V DCE™ for Sequent, and DCE and DFS for the Compaq Tru64 operating system.

The first release of the DCE for Linux product, based on OSF 1.2.2 and running on Red Hat Linux 7.2, interoperates with DCE and DFS running on all major platforms, including HP-UX DCE and DFS, IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, and Compaq Tru64 UNIX.

Customer Reaction

"UVM has come to rely heavily on DCE and DFS for our distributed computing infrastructure. The lack of a Linux client has been a major obstacle for UVM as we look to deploy high performance, cost effective solutions based on Linux. With Entegrity's new Linux DCE/DFS client, we are finally able to deploy Linux servers in our environment, and integrate them with our central authentication system and distributed file system." -- Mike Austin, University of Vermont.

"I am very happy to see the availability of a Linux DCE/DFS client. I hope this will reinvigorate DCE/DFS technology. I anticipate considerable cost savings will be achieved by replacing existing systems with inexpensive Intel based servers running the open source Linux operating system. I was very impressed with the responsiveness and technical ability of the Entegrity development staff throughout the beta test cycle and highly anticipate the availability of the production software." -- Paul Henson, California State Polytechnic University.
