Since 1998, one of the largest ISP companies in the world
has employed AssureDelivery. This brief case study explains
the problem to be solved and how AssureDelivery solved it.
Due to security considerations, we'll refer to the company
simply as "Zeta" in this document.
The Problem
Zeta runs an Internet portal which has been accepting e-commerce
orders over the Internet for various products and services
for several years. Zeta has agreements in place with an array
of vendors to fill these orders. As an Internet company, Zeta
wanted to take advantage of the speed and low cost that sending
these orders to the fulfillment vendors over the Internet
offered. The goal was to periodically batch incoming orders
into files and send them electronically to the respective
vendors. However, Zeta encountered two problems in their original
system for transmitting such orders:
- Orders were not sufficiently protected from prying eyes
over the Internet.
- There was no proof that the vendors received the various
order-related files.
The first problem was particularly serious, as the files
contained personally identifiable information for persons
placing orders as well as credit card numbers; unauthorized
disclosure of this information could be devastating. The second
problem was also serious in the sense that lost files implied
lost orders, unhappy customers, and lost business. In addition,
contractual agreements provided for financial penalties if
orders were lost. Along with the above, the solution had to
meet the following additional requirements:
- Be resilient to network faults - only retransmit unsent
portion of a file
- Be easy to integrate with legacy - use file system as
means of file pickup/drop-off
- Place no limitations on file type, size, or name; work
well with firewalls
- Provide 24/7 centralized control, tracking, auditing,
and reporting
AssureDelivery is the Solution
No other approach, including EDI, leased lines, VPN technology,
and E-mail attachments met the requirements. Entegrity AssureDelivery
not only met the above challenges but has provided a number
of additional benefits as well, including:
- Real-time notifications to interested parties upon file
arrival
- Scalable, fault-tolerant hub-and-spoke architecture
- Extensible design with numerous integration points
AssureDelivery Becomes the Standard Corporate-Wide
As Zeta's needs have grown over time, so have the capabilities
of AssureDelivery to meet those needs. In fact, Zeta has been
so pleased with AssureDelivery that it has expanded the mission
of AssureDelivery worldwide as the corporate standard for
sending or receiving sensitive file content for any corporate
application, be it e-commerce, marketing, financial, reporting,
or otherwise. Zeta not only uses AssureDelivery to send content
between its own locations but between Zeta and business partners
of all kinds worldwide.
